Evolution Of Quality Management System (QMS)

As we step into 2018, let’s consider what this New Year will bring in the Evolution of the Quality Management System. Smart businesses know they have to stay on top of the latest trends and changes in the ever-evolving world of quality management systems. From changing regulations and standards to improving processes and systems internally, there is no end to excellence. Provided you receive the better result.

The quality definition was revised over, again and again, to add up excellence and agility to QMS. ISO 8402:1994 defines quality as the “totality of characteristics of an entity that bears on its ability to satisfy stated and implied needs.” In this definition, the meaning of ‘entity’ refers to include an activity, a process, a product, a service, an organization, a system, a person, or a combination of all.

The revised ISO 9000:2000 defines quality as “a degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfills requirements” together with the following clarifications:
– The term ‘quality can be used with adjectives such as poor, good, or excellent.
– ‘Inherent’, as opposed to ‘assigned’, means existing in something, especially as permanent characteristics.

The new version ISO 9000:2015 QMS standard scope has not been changed, however, the structure and core terms were modified to allow the standard to integrate more easily with other international management systems standards.

Over the last three decades, Pro QC has assisted significant growth to businesses by eliminating COPQ, which is 30% of our revenue.

It is evident that with time, the definition of quality has been evolving; the definition has been encompassing more and more objectives with intricate details and slowly losing out on things that are becoming irrelevant with time.

It is quite clear that the Evolution of Quality Management System has been trying to adapt to the changes in people’s thought processes, wants, and needs of society. Quality is very subjective and hence, managing it is so. The adherence to standards marks the quality of the product and it is a general perspective that the quality is once achieved is maintained, which is not true. The quality once achieved has to be audited timely, to assure that the standards are met. It also simply implies that the standards should also be audited with the evolution of man.

Gone are the days when, the price was prioritized over quality, people now want to invest in experience rather than necessity, they prefer longevity over temporary use. Realizing the shift, now every brand is looking out to optimize its product and putting in continuous efforts to stand out and meet standards. The standards, on the other hand, being at the helm of quality measures need to evolve and be updated not only with changing times but also with international standards.
